Dear Readers,
I was recognized in the supermarket today. It would happen in New York if anywhere, so I wasn't terribly surprised – I was not far from Carnegie Hall at the moment when hunger struck, and that area is full of musicians.
I was standing next to a shelf of tea. A girl I'd spotted in another part of the store turned to me and asked, "Are you Hilary Hahn?" Well, yes. I was sure I'd seen her before, had met her somewhere, but she didn't have the same impression. I have a strange sense for who I've met and who I haven't. I tend to clearly recognize people I have never encountered. That aside, I wonder if musicians have a certain look to them, so that we can somehow identify one another without even thinking about it.
At any rate, it was a funny encounter. We somehow wound up talking about junk food and TV shows. She wanted to make sure that I was letting my hair down from time to time.
These baked Kettle chips are awfully yummy.
Yours from the road,
Hilary
